On February the 2nd 2015 I was part of a group that held an action at the Australian Open men’s tennis finals. Our aim was to create a media spectacle in order to highlight the torture and abuse happening in our asylum seeker detention centres, particularly on Manus Island, and to express our solidarity with those resisting these conditions inside. It was intended to break through a media blackout and generate international shame for our government on this issue. Within minutes of our action news of it, as well as the issue we were highlighting, went viral.
